My work is inspired by nature and its evolution into mechanical form and I use materials that reflect this progression. From natural dyed silks and hemp to recycled copper wire, my work promotes the use of natural and recycled materials. Each piece is completely unique and hand crafted, most weave structures are my own original designs and all the natural dyed yarns I hand dye myself. I am currently focusing on bracelets and buttons, but also work to commissions and am happy to work with new colour schemes and weave structures as well as reinventing ideas from my samples. I am able to weave lengths of fabric or ribbons for trimmings for fashion or interiors. I am passionate about practising old traditions, it is important to move forward with the times and to keep hold of our roots. Weaving is an ancient art form which has developed over many centuries. My work is a reflection of this timeless craft. Price range: From £7.50 2008 The Bigger Picture, The Zed Shed, Penryn, Cornwall 2006 Textiles Show, The Eden Project, Cornwall The Bella Academy of Art, Milan, Italy I am currently working with a tailor who makes wedding dresses on commission, (Marie Maurice - Sows Ear - Jubilee Wharf, Penryn). She has books of my samples - as she designs each dress with the client, they can choose to use my work as ribbons or straps with matching buttons, and as they are commission pieces I can work with their chosen colours and weave structures. 2008 I was commissioned to weave a bracelet specifically for a gift, using dark recycled wool in the warp and copper wire in the weft. Private client, Falmouth, Cornwall. 2007 I wove a length of fabric from natural dyed silk (which I dyed myself) which was to be made into a wedding dress by a tailor. Private client, York, North Yorkshire. 2006 I was commissioned to weave a length of fabric to be used as a blind, with copper in the weft. Private client, Truro, Cornwall. 2008 The Big Boost funding - The Scarman Trust, Bristol. Collection of Fabrics This collection has been made into jewellery and used as samples for commission pieces, such as ribbons to decorate dresses and cushions, and lengths to be tailored into clothing. Some fabrics are 100% silk, some 50% silk 50% recycled Rayon, and they are all soft to touch.
